When Used as a Mixer/Topper:

Simply fill a 1/4 c. measuring cup, mix with other food you may be feeding, and serve. Meal Mixers can be fed to your pet dry or rehydrated by adding 2 tablespoons of cool or warm water per 1/4 cup of food.

When Used As a Complete & Balanced Meal:

Meal Mixers meet the nutritional requirements to be fed as a complete and balanced meal for all adult dogs. To use as a meal, serve as is, or rehydrate by adding cool or warm water. Transition Instructions

What are the sharp things I’m finding in the freeze-dried foods? Aren’t they harmful?

Stella & Chewy’s adds raw ground bone to all dinners as it’s an essential part of a raw diet. The bone is safe and highly digestible when raw. The bone is ground with a 3/16 grind plate this means the bone could appear up to approximately 1/4-in size. The bone in the diet is ground to that size because of the health benefits it provides. A carnivore’s teeth and body are designed to consume bone especially raw bone, like the bone used in each S&C meal. If it’s ground to a powder, it doesn’t have as many of the benefits. While it may feel sharper to our fingers, a carnivore’s body is designed to consume and process the bone effectively and safely, as long as it’s never cooked, heated, or microwaved.

What food safety procedures does Stella & Chewy’s follow?

Stella & Chewy’s has a patented food safety procedure to ensure the safety of every product. The most powerful step in this procedure is the high-pressure processing (HPP) step this is a cold-water pressure process that effectively eliminates harmful bacteria from the food. This process is used on all products, regardless of the protein. As food-borne bacteria can be present in any type of meat, Stella & Chewy’s feel that incurring the extra cost of HPP for all products is the responsible thing to do. Can I feed my pet more than one flavor of Stella & Chewy’s?

We do suggest rotating proteins every 2-6 weeks. This means you would feed one flavor consistently for 2-6 weeks, then switch to another flavor for 2-6 weeks, etc. This is a great way to give your dog variety and to help keep protein-based allergies at bay.

Can the Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried foods be cooked or heated?

Stella & Chewy’s products cannot be cooked, heated or microwaved. Doing so removes much of the nutrition. Additionally, we add raw, ground bone to our products as it’s an essential part of a raw diet. Raw bone is incredibly safe however when bone cooks, it can become brittle and can splinter. Cooked bone is never safe for animals.

What is the shelf life on Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried products?

Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried foods have an expiration date of 18 months past the date of production. It is suggested to use our products by this date, or within a few days after. Much past that and we would recommend discarding the bag. Freezing or refrigerating would not extend the listed shelf life.

Are the cat and dog products the same and can they be used interchangeably?

It’s a question we hear a lot and we always suggest using the Stella & Chewy’s product that was designed specifically for your cat or dog. Our dinners for dogs are not harmful to a cat, but they don’t offer the balanced nutritional requirements of a cat either. You could occasionally offer the dog food to your cat, but wouldn’t you prefer to give them the nutrients their furry little bodies need?

  I used to use food topping powders but felt like this would be a much healthier option. My dog loves eating the toppers first so I just break it up a little bit and attempt to mix it with his kibble. Somehow, he’s still able to pick all the stellas out first and then eat the kibble afterwards. I love that the salmon flavor is much softer and easier to break up. The beef flavor is always way too hard! I can’t even break it up. For the beef flavor, I throw it in my blender and just use it as a powder. Now that I know the salmon flavor is much softer, I’ll just go with that one from now on.

  My dog eats the same food every day because of her sensitive tummy. I buy all varieties of Stella & Chewy’s to crush on top of her food to give her some variety. These do not bother her stomach. One day I ran out of her usual treats and found that she loves these bites as a treat also. Wags her tail every time.

  I’ve been buying these meal mixers for a long time. The one I just received on my last order is terrible! They are so hard my little dogs can’t chew them! I’m wondering if they are safe to feed to them! Very disappointed!

  These are AMAZING and don’t last long in my home.

  My pups don’t like them mixed with their food but this is their #1 favorite training reward.

  I just wish they weren’t so expensive.

  Also I turned my vet onto these and apparently other patients are having great reviews about them.

  We were not happy with these. We have bought other Stella & Chewy Meal Mixer flavors, but this was the first time we tried the beef and splurged on the large bag because we have had good luck with the others. They are so hard! It is tough to break them up. The other flavors we have had just crumble easily. I don’t know if these were old or maybe this flavor is that way, but we were very disappointed and would buy them again. I had to go out and get a different one.

  I have two frenchies 20 and 25lbs 2 and 3 years old and a Bull Terrier puppy 40lbs.
  My smaller frenchie Anna Banana’s entire body was filled with a rash she broke out from something we believe the food we were feeding her or raw eggs, she may be allergic to chicken so we stopped feeding them chicken all together.
  Anyway I noticed a difference within a couple of days feeding them the patties. within 4=6 days, Anna’s belly was entirely cleared. My dogs are so much happier huge difference.
  They love this food, I feed them the frenchie kibble mixed with the meal mixer which is basically same as the patties except broken down. My dogs were picky eaters until we started this meal mixer.

  I highly recommend this food, it is a bit expensive $74.00 for the 35oz bag but saved me over $200 in vet bills.

  My mini labradoodle puppy is so picky about her food. I’ve had to change it twice since I got her. I tried mixing this topper in with her food and she licks the bowl clean every time. I break up a couple pieces and mix it in. Works every time!

  These are a really big hit with my dog. While they are not cheap, the quality seems to be very good. My dog will eat these dry as snacks or I top off her food and add some broth to soften them.

  These dried up waffers seem to satisfy the girls (my dogs) want or need for a treat. When added to their food at feeding time both showed interest as to what was in their bowl, ate every bit,that’s always a plus with my Shepard being a picky eater sometimes. The thing that I don’t like is the cost,steak from the butcher is cheaper and the girls fight over that.

  What the heck happened to this dog food. I concur with others comments about how all of a sudden they are so hard you can hardly break them into pieces. And after you soak them in water they seem sort of like rubber. Have definitely stopped using this brand and have now switched to other brands (not allowed to mention competitors names).

  Our pup LOVES S&C dehydrated raw patties. We actually tried to switch to a (high quality) kibble, and he refused to finish his food. As soon as we switched back to the patties, he gulped down his food and licked his bowl clean. Personally, I also enjoy rehydrating/preparing his food. We’re so happy S&C patties are for all life stages and in so many different flavors. We’re testing different protein allergies on our pup so we have a lot of options!
  On top of all that, going out to relieve himself is a lot less on the patties than on kibble, so we know there is real nutrition being absorbed and not the junk being passed through in kibble!
  We also love all the one ingredient treats and meal toppers
