Diamond Pet Foods began in 1970 with a shared vision. Our founders, brothers-in-law Gary Schell and Richard Kampeter, believed that premium pet food could be produced at an affordable price. Together, they purchased a former milling company in the town of Meta, Missouri (population 220), and the Diamond company was born.

Soon, nutrition-conscious pet owners were validating Gary and Richard’s theory and buying Diamond Pet Foods products. Our plant in Meta was modernized with state-of-the-art equipment, and we expanded our production capacity in order to meet the growing demand with plants in Lathrop, California in 1999; Gaston, South Carolina in 2003; Ripon, California in 2012; and Dumas, Arkansas in 2016.

Today, Diamond Pet Foods remains one of the fastest growing pet food manufacturers in the country. Our products are trusted by professional breeders, trainers, veterinarians and pet owners in all 50 states and in 100 countries around the world. The second generation of Schell and Kampeter families still own and operate the company. And we still believe that every pet is worthy of the best nutrition. Including yours.

In order to provide both ingredients of exceptional quality and products that are affordable, we’ve developed unique relationships with our suppliers. Being privately held, we can look beyond short-term, quarterly shareholder results and enter into long-term agreements with our vendors. These long-term arrangements with our vendor-partners have led to preferred pricing, vendor loyalty, and a steady supply of quality ingredients for Diamond.

At Diamond, we only make products that we’d be proud to feed to our own pets. We start with ingredients of exceptional quality, including real meat, vegetables and fruits. Then our veterinarians and nutritionists carefully develop formulas that meet all dietary nutritional standards. Every product is precision formulated for content, quality, consistency and uniformity. And finally, every one of our products undergoes a rigorous quality-control process to ensure it meets our quality and safety standards.

Diamond Pet Foods is produced at five state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities across the U.S. In addition to our headquarters in Meta, Missouri, we have plants in Gaston, South Carolina; Lathrop, California; Ripon, California; and Dumas, Arkansas. All of our facilities incorporate state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing processes. Every step of the process is carefully monitored, tracked and measured to ensure the quality and safety of every product we make.

Every Diamond Pet Foods facility undergoes a yearly Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) audit administered by NSF International®, an industry-leading food safety audit firm, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Good Manufacturing Practices are guidelines that ensure the product being produced has the “identity, strength, composition, quality, and purity that it is represented to possess.”
